Kazakhstan plans to import diesel fuel from Russia

Kazakhstan plans to import up to 100,000 tons of diesel fuel from Russia. The Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Bolat Akchulakov, told at a briefing. Zakon.kz reports.

The forecast for the production of diesel fuel for 2022 is 5.2 million tons. This is 300,000 tons more than in 2021, and 640,000 tons more than in 2020. In addition, Samruk-Kazyna funds and KazMunayGas signed a contract to import the required volumes of diesel fuel in September and October.

«The volume of two batches is up to 100,000 tons. It is clear that this volume is from Russia. Our nearest suppliers simply do not have diesel fuel in such quantities. All this is within the indicative balances. Initially, the possibility of import of diesel fuel from the Russian Federation, as well as jet fuel, was envisaged. Shipments have begun,» said Bolat Akchulakov.

Kanatbek Eshatov, president of the Association of Oil Traders of Kyrgyzstan, said on Monday that the purchase of diesel by Kazakhstan could increase the demand for this type of fuel and, accordingly, the price for it.

«Kazakhstan buys diesel from Russia for two or three months at the end of the year. Because of this, demand increases, and prices automatically rise. Kazakhstan takes our three-month supply within a month,» Kanatbek Eshatov added.
