Prime Ministers of Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan meet in Cholpon-Ata city

Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov and the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov met on the sidelines of the meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council. Press service of the Cabinet reported.

The parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, including within the framework of the integration association. Akylbek Japarov noted that the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan, as well as the agreements reached during the tenth meeting of the Kyrgyz-Kazakh Intergovernmental Council, became clear evidence of positive dynamics in strengthening fraternal relations between the two countries.

«The volume of trade between our countries for six months of 2022 amounted to $568 million. This is 24 percent more than last year. This pleases us, but there is something to strive for. Regular and timely meetings will be an excellent tool for discussing and finding solutions to a number of issues that exist today, including in trade and transit areas,» Akylbek Japarov said.

At the beginning of the meeting, Alikhan Smailov expressed condolences in connection with the recent tragic death of citizens of Kyrgyzstan in a road accident in Ulyanovsk Oblast of the Russian Federation.

«Our main goal is the full implementation of the tasks set by the heads of state and further strengthening of Kazakh-Kyrgyz cooperation, in particular, an increase in the mutual trade up to $2 billion,» Alikhan Smailov said.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed implementation of the project on the construction of an industrial trade and logistics complex in the area of Ak-Tilek and Karasu checkpoints, increase in prices for diesel fuel in Kazakhstan, cooperation in the field of agriculture, as well as the unimpeded crossing of Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border by Kyrgyz trucks.
