Kazakhstan cancels teaching of Russian and English from first grade

The authorities of Kazakhstan canceled teaching of three languages at once for first graders from the new academic year. The Minister of Education of the country Askhat Aimagambetov said.

The official explained that the decision was made to reduce the training load. It concerns schools with the state language of instruction.

«To master the second and third languages, a child needs to learn to read and write in their native language, so from the first grades of schools with the state language of instruction, children will learn only the Kazakh language. From the second grade, learning of the Russian language as a separate discipline will begin, and, all schools will teach English from the third grade,» Askhat Aimagambetov said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

At the same time, two subjects — Russian and Kazakh will remain in the program of schoolchildren of the first and second grades with Russian as the language of instruction. Children will start learning English in the third grade.
