Kyrgyzstanis have achieved herd immunity for COVID-19, but this does not mean that they should not be vaccinated. Anara Mambetisaeva, head of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health, told 24.kg news agency.
She reminded that immunity develops after a person has either been infected or vaccinated.
According to Anara Mambetisaeva, about half of the citizens from the target group were vaccinated with both doses — more than 1.2 million people out of 3 million included in the group.
«Of course, vaccination does not give a 100 percent guarantee that a person will not get infected. But it increases the likelihood that he or she will have a mild form of the disease. Therefore, vaccination is necessary. It also makes it possible to control the infection and reduce its spread,» she said, adding that the delivery of Pfizer vaccine through COVAX is expected in early August.
