Kyrgyzstan proposes to create Central Asian TV channel

The 4th Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia ended in Cholpon-Ata city.

The Presidents signed the Treaty of Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation and approved the road map.

In his concluding speech, the head of state Sadyr Japarov noted that the issue of complete removal of tariff and non-tariff barriers that impede free trade, including unreasonable cargo delays at the borders, is extremely important.

He expressed the hope that digitalization tools will help solve the accumulated issues.

«Given that our countries are landlocked, it is necessary to make efforts to improve the transport, transit and logistics infrastructure of the states of Central Asia, primarily in terms of increasing the level of integration within the region, as well as connecting to world transport hubs and corridors,» Sadyr Japarov said.

He called the construction of China — Kyrgyzstan — Uzbekistan railway an important project, adding that its successful implementation will significantly increase the international trade, investment and transit potential of Central Asia.

«Kyrgyzstan proposes a joint organization of specialized tourist routes, relaxation of the rules for tourists who cross common borders, formation of information centers with a database of tourism opportunities for each of the countries of the region, as well as holding of common tourism exhibitions and fairs, release of common advertising materials,» the president noted.

He suggested creation of a common Central Asian TV channel and preparing a series of TV projects informing about the potential of the region, friendship and unity of the peoples living in this territory, a series of educational TV and radio programs on the history and identity of the peoples.

The first Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia was held in Nur-Sultan (2018), the second — in Tashkent (2019). In 2020, the summit was planned to be held in Kyrgyzstan, but due to the coronavirus pandemic, it was postponed for a year. Turkmenistan hosted the third meeting in August 2021.
