The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan proceeds from an unchanging position on the need to comply with the agreements reached not to create conditions in the future that could lead to an escalation of the situation in the border areas between the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. Official representative of the Foreign Ministry Avazbek Atakhanov said, commenting on the shooting at the border that took place yesterday, on May 3, in Bulak-Bashy area of Batken district, Batken region on the border with Tajikistan.
Two servicemen — sergeant B. Suyunbek uulu and corporal Z. Zhalilov were seriously injured.
Avazbek Atakhanov noted that all existing problems should be solved exclusively by political and diplomatic means.
To avoid the recurrence of such situations, the parties should mutually strive to create a constructive and benevolent atmosphere in resolving border issues in order to exclude various scenarios of clashes in the future that could lead to the death of citizens and military personnel on both sides, destroy centuries-old good neighborly relations between the two peoples, the official added.
