A new rehabilitation center for children with disabilities will be opened in Bishkek. Press service of the Ministry of Labor, Social Security and Migration of Kyrgyzstan reported.
According to the press service, it is planned to hand over the houses of the former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev, located at 519 and 521, Zhibek Zholu Avenue, to the ministry.
Minister Kudaibergen Bazarbaev noted that after receiving these premises, the ministry will work to open a free rehabilitation center for children with disabilities. «We all know that not every family, which has a child with special needs, can pay for private services. The state will provide quality services for free at the modern center. The center will be able to accommodate up to 100 children at a time,» he said.
The head of the ministry added that «unprecedented steps are being taken to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities in the country.»
«The presidential decree for the first time in a long time increased benefits for adults and children with disabilities, as well as payments to personal assistants — parents who constantly take care of their children. It is important that from June 1, not only children, but people with group 1 disability above 18 can receive services of a personal assistant,» he said.
According to the Ministry of Labor, there are 32,000 children with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan to date. The ministry says that opening of modern rehabilitation centers throughout the country is one of the priorities in its work.
