At least 73 percent of schoolchildren experienced psychological violence in the family in Bishkek and Chui region of Kyrgyzstan. Results of a survey of students conducted by «School of Social Activism» organization says.
According to it, 532 schoolchildren (from 6th to 11th grades) participated in the survey, most of them are 15-16 years old (60 percent). Some 62 percent of them are girls and 38 percent are boys. The survey was mainly conducted in Chui region and Bishkek.
At least 29 percent of respondents do not trust their parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents.
Less than half of schoolchildren (42 percent) are ready to entrust secrets to their mother, trust to their father is catastrophically low — 4 percent.
The survey shows that nearly three-fourths of those surveyed (73 percent) had experienced psychological abuse by family members, while 43 percent of participants experienced physical abuse, about a quarter (24 percent) experienced economic abuse, and 3 percent of those surveyed experienced sexual abuse by family members.
«Violence against children is a problem that requires close attention from government agencies and society. Violence in childhood leads to cognitive and behavioral changes that negatively affect the health, educational and social potential of the child and his or her entire subsequent life,» the survey says.
