President of Kazakhstan spoke about traffic jams at border with Kyrgyzstan

President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev is confident that today’s visit to Kyrgyzstan will bring bilateral cooperation to a new level. He stated this today at a briefing in Bishkek.

Kassym-Jomart Tokayev noted that during the talks, priority attention was paid to strengthening trade and economic ties.

«Today, when the whole world is going through a difficult period, it is especially important to unite efforts. Kazakhstan is one of the main trade and investment partners of Kyrgyzstan. Last year, the trade turnover between our countries reached $1 billion. Over the past 15 years, the Republic of Kazakhstan has invested more than $1 billion in the economy of the Kyrgyz Republic, including in socially significant projects. In general, we have the potential to further expand economic integration. We agreed to increase the volume of mutual trade up to $2 billion,» he said.

According to the head of Kazakhstan, there is potential for a significant increase in mutual trade in the short term. The Republic of Kazakhstan can already offer Kyrgyzstan hundreds of types of imported goods.

«We are ready to export industrial products and other goods. There will be support from Kazexport. The Kyrgyz Republic also exports a number of goods to our country. In this regard, we agreed to make the most of the available opportunities. Particular attention was paid to measures to simplify the passage of citizens across the border. We also discussed the issues of improving cargo transportation. In recent years, a number of large-scale measures have been taken in this direction. In 2021, Kordai border checkpoint was modernized, and high-quality passenger service is provided. Agreements were reached on the modernization of other border checkpoints as well. The main task is to reduce the number of checks and eliminate traffic congestion at the border,» he said.

The President of Kazakhstan arrived in Bishkek on an official visit today. The meeting of the heads of state took place at Ala-Archa-1 state residence.

At least 14 bilateral documents were signed within the official visit of the leader of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan.
