Rampant pyramid schemes in Kyrgyzstan are the consequences of legal illiteracy of citizens. Lawyer Fatima Yakupbaeva shared her opinion at a round table in Bishkek.
«The state is not taking the most effective measures to change the situation. Educational work about the threats of fraud should be carried out through state television, not social media. People who use social networks are more aware of the risks,» she said.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 577 criminal cases were initiated on organizing pyramid schemes in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year. The total material damage caused to Kyrgyzstanis within these cases exceeds 150 million soms.
