Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Edil Baisalov received the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to the Kyrgyz Republic Valery Zhovtenko at the request of the Ukrainian side.
According to the government’s press service, during the meeting the Ukrainian side informed about o the current situation in the country.
Edil Baisalov noted that any conflict should be solved exclusively by political and diplomatic means at the negotiating table and all interested parties should seek every opportunity to resolve the situation, including by establishing new formats and mechanisms, if the existing ones have lost effectiveness.
It was stressed that the Kyrgyz Republic is a firm supporter of respect for the universally recognized norms and principles of international law enshrined in the UN Charter and other documents, respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of states is above all.
He also expressed his concern that the whole world, and developing countries in particular, would be affected by sanctions that could lead to a long-term economic downturn.
In addition, the sides discussed the safe evacuation of Kyrgyzstanis from Ukraine.
Akylbek Japarov, head of the Cabinet of Ministers, spoke about the situation in Ukraine.
«I will be frank. All sides are demanding some kind of position from us. They are demanding to voice support for some side of the conflict. Our country is divided into two camps now. Such an approach is justified at a personal level. Everyone is proceeding from their personal sympathies and the worldview. But I think such an approach is reckless and, moreover, irresponsible at the state level. We are a small country, and a little depends on our position in the world. But any ill-conceived decision can turn into big trouble for our people», Akylbek Japarov said.
