Shootout at border: Negotiations between representatives of two countries end

Negotiations between border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan were held in Pasky-Aryk area of ​​Batken region of Kyrgyzstan. The Department of Information and Communications of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic reported.

As a result of the negotiations, the following decisions were reached:

  • Each of the parties will conduct its own investigation into the armed incident that occurred on March 10; preliminary results will be announced at a meeting of the heads of the border services of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, scheduled for March 12;
  • Each of the parties will continue to carry out explanatory work among the residents of border villages.

It is specified that the governors of Batken region of Kyrgyzstan and Sughd region of Tajikistan have already begun to take the necessary measures to prevent conflicts and their escalation.

During the talks, the parties considered issues on the observance by the military personnel of the border departments of the two countries of the line of conduct of military personnel on the Kyrgyz-Tajik state border.

The border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan agreed on return of forces, means and equipment to the points of their permanent deployment.

As of 4 p.m., the situation on the Kyrgyz-Tajik section of the state border is characterized as stable.

Teskei area is a disputed section of the state border, but is actually used by the citizens of Kyrgyzstan. The border units stationed in Batken region have been put on combat alert after the border incident.
