Situation in Ukraine: Fighting sparks fire outside Ukrainian nuclear plant

The head of Energodar city Dmitry Orlov told about the situation with Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant as of the morning. According to him, there are no shots at the moment.

He told that Russian soldiers broke through to Energodar last night at about 4.30 pm.

A fire broke out during the shootout. There are wounded. Their number is not known. It is not possible to take them to the hospital. Previously, at least two wounded were taken to the hospital.

Dmitry Orlov assessed the situation as very critical.

«Fire at a nuclear power plant,» Andrey Tuz, a spokesman for the plant, said in a video posted on the nuclear power plant’s Telegram channel.

Zaporizhzhya NPP is nuclear power plant located in the steppe zone on the banks of Kakhovka reservoir in Zaporozhye Oblast of Ukraine in Energodar city. It is the largest power plant in Europe.

Since 2001, a dry storage facility for spent nuclear fuel has been used at the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, in a conversation with Volodymyr Zelensky, said that he was convening an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council in the near future due to the situation with Zaporizhzhya NPP.
