Situation in Ukraine: MFA of Kyrgyzstan calls on parties for peace

Recall of an ambassador for consultations is the sovereign right of any state. The Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan informed 24.kg news agency.

According to the department, the people of Ukraine and the leadership of the country are going through difficult times, difficult decisions are being made.

«In order to prevent speculation in the media space regarding our position on the situation in Ukraine, we want to recall certain theses of the position that were officially announced publicly to the Ambassador of Ukraine in Kyrgyzstan. Firstly, it is especially tragic that two fraternal peoples are involved in the conflict and it was not possible to avoid human casualties. Secondly, the Kyrgyz people have historically friendly relations with both the Russian and Ukrainian peoples. Thirdly, we see with great disappointment that today the world, instead of uniting, is following the path of division into right and wrong. In this extremely dangerous time, we call on everyone to unite for a common peace. Fourthly, we stand for the peaceful resolution of the conflict exclusively by political and diplomatic methods within the framework of the generally recognized principles and norms of international law,» the Foreign Ministry stressed.

We welcome the start of negotiations. If some mechanisms for ensuring peace have ceased to work, we must jointly find new formats for an effective dialogue. All of us today must contribute in every possible way to ensuring success of these negotiations.

From statement of the Information Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

The Foreign Ministry believes that further casualties and destruction should not be allowed. Involvement of new countries and actors in the conflict also should not be allowed.

«We wish the Ukrainian people a peaceful sky and are ready, as always, for mutually beneficial cooperation between our countries,» the statement says.

It was reported earlier that the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky recalled country’s ambassador Valery Zhovtenko from Kyrgyzstan for consultations. He said this during a televised address to the nation, stressing that the ambassador was recalled «for justifying aggression against Ukraine». However, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic has not yet received a note verbale.

Today is the seventh day of fighting in Ukraine. On February 24, 2022, the Russian President Vladimir Putin announced start of a special military operation. It was regarded in Ukraine and in the West as a full-scale invasion. Severe economic sanctions began to be imposed on Russia on February 25. The number of casualties, both among military personnel of both countries and civilians, is increasing. The number of Ukrainian refugees fleeing to Europe is growing. Protests against Russia’s actions are taking place in many countries around the world.

By the evening of February 27, almost all European countries closed their airspace for Russian airlines. The NATO states and the United States not only increased financial assistance to Ukraine, but also began supplying weapons. Tough sanctions have been imposed on Russia. The package of sanctions is increasing every day.

Hostilities continued on February 28. Against this background, the first round of Russian-Ukrainian talks took place. Details are not reported. The parties will consult with their leadership and set a date for the second round of talks.
