Kyrgyzstan urges to develop railway infrastructure in EAEU

«One of the reasons hindering the unlocking of potential of transport corridors is the lack of necessary railway infrastructure links in the territories of individual member states of the Eurasian Economic Union,» Akylbek Japarov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, said at a meeting of the Eurasian Intergovernmental Council in expanded format.

According to him, an important aspect of increasing the volume of mutual and international trade is to increase the transit potential, as the transport systems of the EAEU member states allow optimal transport connectivity in the East-West and North-South direction.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers is confident that creation and further development of the railway transport infrastructure on the territory of the member states will help both the economic advancement of the member states and development of global trade.

«At the same time, Kyrgyzstan advocates for the need to create and develop an appropriate commodity supply chain system and logistics infrastructure on the route of interstate corridors with the possibility of providing a full range of related transport and logistics services on a «one-stop-shop» principle. The Eurasian Agroexpress project is promising in this respect, which is aimed at building a coordinated logistics chain with diversified transport corridors. Support for the joint project for rapid rail transportation of agricultural products Eurasian Agroexpress will give a new impetus to bilateral cooperation and expand opportunities for the export of goods,» Akylbek Japarov said.

The head of the Cabinet of Ministers also noted that another important issue that needs to be promptly resolved is the recognition of vaccination documents, including vaccines against COVID-19, which are used in the territory of the Eurasian Economic Space. There is already a practice of mutual recognition of COVID-19 vaccination certificates in the EAEU member states; Russia and Kazakhstan have agreed to recognize the certificates on a bilateral basis.

«We believe that this experience could be extended to all five countries to effectively form a system of targeted assistance for post-COVID economic recovery and further economic development of member states. I am convinced that the work we do and the timely decisions we take will contribute to the further development of Eurasian integration and improvement of well-being of our citizens,» he concluded.
