Two residents of Batken sentenced to 18 years in prison in Tajikistan

Two residents of Leilek district of Batken region were sentenced to 18 years in prison in Tajikistan. Their relatives told 24.kg news agency.

According to them, Nooman Samedov and Saidakmat Artykov were tried on December 28.

«They were sentenced to 18 years. According to our information, they were previously accused of illegal crossing of the border. We don’t know what their condition is, because we can’t meet with them due to the closure of the border,» the relatives said.

The Foreign Ministry said that work is being carried out with the detained residents of Leilek district. «Our employees are in touch with the relatives,» they said.

Nooman Samedov was detained on September 13 and Saidakmat Artykov — on September 18.

According to relatives, Aidarbek Khaidarov, a 24-year-old student, was put on trial in Tajikistan in early December. He was sentenced to two years behind bars.

Earlier, Presidential Envoy to Batken region Abdikarim Alimbayev reported that seven Kyrgyzstanis had been detained in Tajikistan.
