During the year, Kazakhstan additionally received 700 million cubic meters of water from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. The head of the Ministry of Ecology of Kazakhstan Serikkali Brekeshev told at a press conference.
According to him, Kazakhstan received from its two neighbors 106 million cubic meters of water more than in 2020.
«Thanks to our active negotiation policy with our neighbors, we received more water this year than the last year. In general, we were able to receive additional 700 million cubic meters of water from the Syrdarya river basin. By the way, our neighbors had to limit themselves, but they gave us the necessary water. As a result, we have provided farmers in Turkestan, Kyzylorda and Zhambyl regions with irrigation water,» the Kazakh official said.
On December 8, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Askar Mamin thanked the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Akylbek Japarov for transfer of additional volumes of water this summer. Then the National Energy Holding explained that an agreement was concluded between Electric Stations OJSC and the energy company of Kazakhstan for the mutual supply of electricity in the amount of 900 million kilowatt-hours with the subsequent return of the received electricity in June — August from 2021 to 2023.
