Border incident: Military Prosecutor's Office of Tajikistan starts investigation

Border representatives of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan held a meeting to discuss the incident that occurred on Maksat — Zhashtyk road in Leilek district of Batken region of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the Information and Communications Department of the Border Service of the State Committee for National Security, the Tajik side was shown the place and told the chronology of the incident, during which the Tajik border guards used weapons against the citizen of the Kyrgyz Republic.

According to the Border Service of the Kyrgyz Republic, «the border representatives of the Republic of Tajikistan fully recognized the illegality of the actions of the Tajik military and the unlawfulness of use of weapons.» They also assured that «the border guards who allowed this outrageous fact will be held accountable,» and this incident will be investigated by the Military Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Tajikistan.

In conclusion, the parties agreed to conduct unilateral investigations into the incident. In the near future, both republics intend to conduct joint exercises with the heads of the border posts of the two countries on the line of conduct of the border guards of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan.
