Kyrgyzstan suspends issuance of licenses for higher medical education program

The Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan imposed a temporary moratorium on the issuance of licenses for the higher medical education program. Cabinet’s press service reported.

The Chairman of the Cabinet Akylbek Japarov signed the corresponding decision.

The restriction is introduced from January 1, 2022 to January 1, 2023 in order to improve the quality of training of medical personnel in higher education institutions of the republic.

The press service noted that in recent years the number of higher educational institutions that train medical personnel has significantly increased in the country.

Currently, 22 higher education institutions, including five state and 17 private ones, train medical personnel.

From 2016 to 2021, 10 new higher educational institutions were opened, implementing the General Medicine program, with a five-year study period on the basis of 12 years of education, for foreign citizens with English as the language of instruction.

Applications for licenses are still received (five applications are pending); all of them do not have a sufficient clinical base and the necessary staffing.

The Cabinet of Ministers added that higher educational institutions are trying to obtain licenses for medical programs without proper personnel, methodological and other resource support. This led to a sharp deterioration of the quality of higher medical education.
