Special Representative of European Union arrives in Kyrgyzstan

European Union’s Special Representative for Central Asia, Ambassador Terhi Hakala arrived in Kyrgyzstan today. This is her first visit to the country since taking office on July 1.

Terhi Hakala will meet with the leadership of Kyrgyzstan, including the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Aziz Aaliev, Foreign Minister Ruslan Kazakbaev, Deputy Chairman of the Security Council Taalatbek Masadykov and Ombudsman Tokon Mamytov.

The parties will discuss cooperation between the EU and Kyrgyzstan, upcoming events in the framework of political dialogue, political processes in Kyrgyzstan, including the upcoming parliamentary elections.

Issues of regional cooperation between the EU and Central Asia will be discussed — the Civil Society Forum and the Economic Forum. The parties will exchange views on developments in the region and the situation in Afghanistan.

In Bishkek, Ambassador Terhi Hakala will also meet with diplomats, including EU ambassadors.
