The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan commented on the skirmish on the Kyrgyz-Uzbek border, which occurred on May 31.
According to the information of the Foreign Ministry of the neighboring state, a local incident between residents of the border regions of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan occurred in Chashma area.
«Study of the causes of the incident by officials of the both parties showed that a dispute that arose during joint cleaning of irrigation ditches of Chashma spring developed into a conflict between some citizens of the two countries. As a result of the incident, there are victims on both sides. They received the necessary medical care,» the message says.
As a result of negotiations between the heads of the border regions of the two countries, the situation was taken under full control. The parties agreed to not to carry out cleaning work without prior approval.

The ministry also noted that Chashma spring provides drinking and irrigation water to both residents of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan. Taking into account mutual interests, there is an agreement on the joint use of the Chashma spring.
It is reported that a meeting between the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov and the First Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic Kubatbek Boronov took place on June 1 at 9.00.
«During the meeting, a wide range of issues of bilateral cooperation was discussed. An agreement was reached to develop border cooperation and resolve issues arising at the border in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership, as well as in accordance with the provisions of the agreement between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic on confidence-building measures in the border area, signed on October 6, 2017,» the statement says.
The heads of government agreed to hold a meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic Cooperation in the near future.
It is noted that a meeting of the Council of Hokims of the border regions of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Plenipotentiary Representatives of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic will also be held. «The heads of the delegations of the two countries also held a joint meeting with the local population,» the Foreign Ministry of the neighboring country says.
