Despite the work being done, the traffic accidents rate in Kyrgyzstan remains critical. Specialist of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health, Tilek Buteshov, told today at a press conference.
According to him, the Global Road Safety Week was held from May 6 to May 12. «Officially, more than 32,000 traffic accidents were recorded over the past five years, more than 5,000 people died, more than 50,000 were injured. More than 56 percent of the injured suffered a head injury,» Tilek Buteshov told.
WHO Representative in the Kyrgyz Republic Nazira Artykova added that a half of the fatal traffic accidents cases are connected with one or several risk factors — exceeding the permissible speed, effects of alcohol, ignoring seat belts and child seats.
