About 20 percent of Bishkek schools have no indoor toilets

About 20 percent of Bishkek schools do not have indoor toilets. Deputy of the Bishkek City Council, Saidakhmat Ismailov, told 24.kg news agency.

He noted that the issue was considered by the Standing Committee on Housing and Utilities Services of the Bishkek City Council.

«In 2018, on September 1, I visited school No. 53 and learned that students and teachers were forced to use an outdoor toilet. I invited the heads of Education and Capital Construction Departments. After it, we managed to make the toilet inside the school at the expense of funds left from the repair of the heating system,» he said.

Saidakhmat Ismailov added: the department of education reported that about 20 percent of Bishkek schools had only outdoor toilets. In total, there are 97 schools in the city.

I admit, I was shocked. Bishkek is the capital of the state, and in the 21st century our children go to the toilet outside.

«Last year, in winter, the temperature dropped to — 25 degrees Celsius. Then the Education and Capital Construction Departments were instructed to include these educational institutions into 2019 budget. My colleagues — deputies supported me and approved the expenses of 23.5 million soms. I hope this year we will build indoor toilets at all schools,» he said.

Saidakhmat Ismailov added that almost all the projects of educational institutions provided for indoor toilets, but for some reason they did not work: the sewage system was broken somewhere, something broke, and the toilets were moved outside.
