Anti-migrant sentiment. Dozens of drivers not go to work in Yakutsk

Dozens of buses do not serve their routes in Yakutsk city (Russia) due to attacks on drivers and future checks. Sakhaday.ru reports.

According to the media outlet, today, on March 19, citizens saw closed vegetable kiosks and felt a lack of buses.

After anti-migrant campaigns, videos with attacks on sellers and drivers are distributed on social networking sites. According to journalists, on March 18, several people beat up a driver of a bus 18. As a result, many drivers have not come to work today.

«According to our information, 80-90 buses do not serve their routes. With a total of 420-430 buses, this is quite a lot. Now we understand the reasons. Drivers report technical problems, some worry about safety. Nevertheless, we did not abandon the city. The interval is observed at 50 percent of routes,» said Andrei Sharygin, Director of Yakutsk’s United Dispatch Service.

Andrei Kositsky, head of SoyuzAvto non-profit partnership, told reporters that the situation was under control.

«In the morning, really, there were quite a few buses. However, we managed to convince them, and at this time about 30-40 buses are missing. Because of this, the interval between buses is slightly increased. Schedule of some drivers was changed, so there is order. Indeed, yesterday there were incidents, conflict situations in buses: passengers did not pay for travel, drivers were insulted. There are no such cases today,» he said.

Recall, a spontaneous campaign took place in Yakutsk after migrants were suspected of abducting and raping a woman. Criminal case on rape and kidnapping was initiated by the Investigative Committee for Yakutia. A man was detained in the case, and two more are being checked.

Russian media reported that three migrants from Central Asia were suspected of raping the woman.

The State Migration Service of Kyrgyzstan is concerned about the anti-migrant sentiment and the rally in Yakutia. It asks Kyrgyzstanis in Yakutia to refrain from any actions that may entail interethnic conflicts.
