Any patient with tuberculosis can be cured in Kyrgyzstan. Head of the Public Health Department of the Ministry of Health of Kyrgyzstan, Ainura Akmatova, told today at a press conference in 24.kg news agency.
According to her, the program to combat drug-resistant forms of tuberculosis has been successful.
«We can return the sick home and give hope for the future. There are problems with a high incidence of tuberculosis in Kyrgyzstan. There are forms that are not treatable. However, we can cure the disease. With the support of USAID, new treatments have been introduced. We are one step closer to overcoming tuberculosis. The drugs are available and free,» Ainura Akmatova told.
USAID Mission Director in the Kyrgyz Republic Gary Linden added that the treatment structure has changed.
«We are proud that our joint efforts help save lives every day. Previously, treatment lasted 24 months. Patients find it difficult to adhere to such a regimen that affected the results. We supported short-term treatment for 9-12 months. Before that, only a half of the patients were cured. Now, t is 80 percent,» he said.
