Tourism in Kyrgyzstan is developing too slowly. The Prime Minister of Kyrgyzstan Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev stated during the discussion of the problem of tourism development in the Kyrgyz Republic in Cholpon-Ata town.
According to him, since 2012, the share of tourism in the country’s GDP has grown by only 0.3 percent.
«If in 2012 the share of tourism in GDP was 4.7 percent, then in 2017 it was 5 percent. This is the result of five years. And the number of tourists arriving in the country annually increases by 6.2 percent. We must accelerate the development of this sphere. The share of tourism in the country’s GDP should reach 20 percent,» Mukhammedkaly Abylgaziev said.
The Prime Minister noted that the Kyrgyz Republic takes the 115th place out of 136 countries of the world in terms of the number of tourists attracted.
«This indicator shows a backlog from neighboring countries. So, Russia occupies the 43rd place, Kazakhstan — the 81st , and Tajikistan — the 107th place,» he told.
