Deputy of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan Saidulla Nyshanov suggested the government to consider introduction of a tourist tax of $ 20. He believes that this amount is insignificant for guests visiting Kyrgyzstan, but will allow increasing revenues to the budget.
«Many tourists come to us. They say that $ 20 is insignificant sum for them. The tax in Dubai is $ 40-50. We only need to make payment of the tax convenient — right at the airport,» said Saidulla Nyshanov.
Minister of Finance Adylbek Kasymaliev answered that the issue should be studied.
«I cannot give an answer now, we need to study how this will affect tourism,» the official replied.
In 2016, at least 3.8 million foreign tourists visited Kyrgyzstan.
The deputy initiative is not the first one. Earlier, the director of one of the travel companies Daniyar Kazakov offered to introduce a tourist contribution of $ 10-15 for foreign citizens.
The officials of Kyrgyzstan also tried to introduce ecological fee for foreigners, which caused a scandal.
