A new criterion for conscription to an alternative service was introduced in Kyrgyzstan. The head of the Main Directorate of Local Armed Forces of the State Committee for Defense Affairs, Ruslan Abdyrakhmanov, told today at a press conference.
According to him, if earlier young men were called for the alternative service on the basis of religious beliefs, presence of a criminal record, state of health and marital status, now, according to the law, there will be no alternative service for health and conviction reasons.
«Previously, the convicted persons could get a second category military service card without doing military service. Now they can get it only performing community service. Persons who have removed the previous conviction from official records can pass the urgent service. A new criterion for conscription was included into the law — the expression of the desire to perform socially useful works. Citizens who are fit for military service will carry them out in free of their work or study time,» Ruslan Abdyrakhmanov told.
He added that doing an alternative service for family reasons provides for a contribution to the budget of 18,000 soms. Members of a registered religious organization, doctrine of which does not allow the use of weapons, can carry out socially useful works lasting 108 hours, making contribution of 25,000 soms to the budget.
