Today, a journalist Elnura Alkanova was charged under the Articles «Illegal receiving of information constituting a commercial or banking secrecy» and «Disclosure of commercial, banking or other secrets, as well as secrets of taxpayer’s information» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. She was charged by the investigator of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes.
According to Media Policy Institute, journalist’s lawyer Jyrgal Babayev made a petition to stop the proceedings in the case against Elnura Alkanova, since she can not be a subject in the elements of the crimes, therefore, there is no crime.
The investigator has not yet ruled on this petition.
In early January, the journalist was summoned for questioning to the Investigative Department of the State Service for Combating Economic Crimes. The reason for the conversation was an article-investigation. Elnura Alkanova tried to find out who got the cottages of Maxim Bakiyev and who is behind the scandalous deal, which, according to the deputies of the Parliament, caused damage to the state at $ 10 million.
