Imports of dairy products to EEU to reduce by almost 300,000 tons

In the current year, an increase in the production of dairy products is forecasted in the countries of the Eurasian Economic Union. Because of this, their imports will reduce by almost 300,000 tons. Sergey Sidorsky, Member of the Board (Minister) for Industry and Agro-Industrial Complex of the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) reported.

In 2017, milk production in the EEU rose by 800,000 tons and exceeded 46 million tons. The share of Russia and Belarus in the union production is 80 percent.

«We are interested in mutual trade in dairy products. It increased by 20 percent and exceeded $ 2 billion. Each country set the task of increasing exports. For example, eight milk processing enterprises in Belarus were granted the right to supply products to Europe, 36 organizations — to China,» Sergey Sidorsky noted.

In 2018, milk production in EEU countries is forecasted to increase to 47 million tons and an increase in exports to 550,000 tons is expected.

According to EEC estimates, the resources available in the union will allow not only to increase mutual trade this year, but also to reduce the import of dairy products.
