Amendments to the Criminal Code, initiated by the parliament member Dastan Bekeshev, were adopted in the third reading.
According to the document, violation of traffic rules and operation of vehicles, which resulted in a death or caused serious harm to health, is punishable by imprisonment for a term from five to seven years with deprivation of the right to drive a vehicle for a period of three years.
According to the current Criminal Code of Kyrgyzstan, fatal traffic accident is punished by a restriction of freedom for up to five years or imprisonment from two to five years with the deprivation of the right to operate transport for a period of up to three years.
If a driver left the scene of a traffic accident that resulted in serious injury to the health of road users or the death of a person, he will be imprisoned for a period of seven years with revoking the driving license for three years.
Now the guilty drivers are imprisoned for three to five years with deprivation of the right to drive vehicles for a period of one to three years.
The proposed fines of 1 million soms were eventually replaced by triple fine or imprisonment for a term of three to five years.
The law will be sent to the president for signing.
