Imam from Suzak sentenced to 21 years for rape, extremism, drugs

Suzak District Court (Jalal-Abad region) sentenced imam of the mosque of At-Chabark village to 21 years in prison for attempted rape of a boy. Office the court reported.

The court found the 58-year-old head of the local mosque guilty under Article 130 «Violent acts of a sexual nature against a minor» of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic, having taken into account all the evidence submitted.

The clergyman was also convicted for possession of drugs and extremism. Thus, he will spend 21 years in a colony with strengthened security regime.

The incident occurred in 2016. Mother of a 10-year-old child wrote a statement to the police, the imam was detained.
