President of Kyrgyzstan not support switch to Latin alphabet

The President of Kyrgyzstan does not support the initiative on switching to the Latin alphabet. Almazbek Atambayev said yesterday in Moscow at a meeting with the Kyrgyz diaspora.

The question about switch to Latin alphabet was asked by one of the Kyrgyzstanis.

«Someone says that we have to switch to the Latin alphabet or other things. We should not renounce what we have. We had our own writing for that matter. We had runic writing «bitik», the most suitable for Kyrgyz language, but we need to keep Cyrillic alphabet," the President said.

Almazbek Atambayev noted that after he leaves the post of president, he will engage in the Kyrgyz language, Kyrgyz culture, history.

«We will restore everything," he assured.

«We treat the Kyrgyz language differently. Believe me, I know many languages, about ten. I would say that the Kyrgyz language is a proto-language. This language must be preserved. I would say that this is not a national, but a world heritage. One day everyone will understand that there is such a language. Every word has meaning. And English has to wait," he concluded.

The President of Kyrgyzstan is in Russia with a state visit.
