EU ready to allocate money for improvement of electoral system of Kyrgyzstan

The European Union is ready to allocate money for improvement of the electoral system of Kyrgyzstan, if the CEC submits an optimal development strategy with clear targets, the EU representatives said at the round table today.

According to them, the estimated amount is about € 3 million. The first tranche involves 1.5 million.

As the CEC head Nurzhan Shaildabekova noted, the guidelines are already prescribed. They include five items. The main ones are equal election and equal voting rights. «With regard to the nomination of candidates, it is assumed here that the requirements for the collection of signatures and deposit of pledges shouldn’t be excessive. For the presidencial candidate — 30,000 voters, which is less than 1 percent in the district," the head of the Central Election Commission said.

She added that independent experts would be able to check the signature sheets in case of their preliminarily training.
