Marlen Mamataliev: Kyrgyzstan will not accept EU dictate on foreign policy

Kyrgyzstan is not ready to take instructions from a major geopolitical player such as the European Union on matters of trade and strategic partnership, Speaker of the Zhogorku Kenesh Marlen Mamataliev told Vesti news service.

He stressed that strategic partnership with Russia remains a priority despite potential risks of sanctions.

«First of all, we are an absolutely independent country. We do not depend on anyone. Attempts to intimidate us or apply other measures will in no way stop us. We have our own vision for the development of our republic. We have our own national interests that we adhere to. We have a clear strategy for our development. Therefore, we will follow our own path,» Marlen Mamataliev said.

According to him, Kyrgyzstan is a responsible member of the international community.

«We do not violate international law. We strictly follow the UN Charter. We adhere to international rules. Therefore, it seems wrong to accuse us or burden us with anything,» the Speaker noted.

At the same time, he said that the role of parliamentary diplomacy in relations with Russia is strengthening. All of this is taking place within the framework of the foreign policy course set by President Sadyr Japarov, Marlen Mamataliev concluded.
