Cabinet Chairman tells about implementation of key energy projects in Kyrgyzstan

The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev, as part of an extended meeting on the results of the government’s activities for the first four months of this year, provided information on the development of the energy sector and the implementation of large-scale energy projects. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.

According to it, with the participation of the Presidents of Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, a new stage of CASA-1000 project was launched on March 31, 2025. A significant event was the commissioning of Datka-Sughd high-voltage power transmission line, which united the energy systems of the two countries.

«This was an important step towards the implementation of a transregional energy project aimed at export of electricity from the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan to Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is also important to note the progress of key energy projects. As for Kambarata HPP-1 construction project, documents on updating the feasibility study and assessing the impact on the environment and social environment are at the final stage,» the Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers said.

He added that an intergovernmental agreement on the joint implementation of the project by Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan is being prepared. In April, negotiations on the project promotion were held in Washington as part of the Spring Meetings of the World Bank Group and the International Monetary Fund. Large-scale preparatory work and coordination of approval stages are underway.

«Work is underway to commission the second hydroelectric unit of Kambarata HPP-2, and to build an upper spillway structure. New hydroelectric power plants are being built: Orto-Tokoy with a capacity of 21 megawatts, Karakul — 18 megawatts and Papan — 25 megawatts,» Adylbek Kasymaliev said.

According to him, during 2025, it is planned to commission 18 small hydroelectric power plants with a total installed capacity of 69.8 megawatts.
