The Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan Adylbek Kasymaliev spoke at a conference, where he emphasized the special role of climate initiatives in the sustainable development of the country. The press service of the Cabinet of Ministers reported.
Adylbek Kasymaliev noted that climate change and sustainable development issues are among the most important priorities of the domestic and foreign policy of the Kyrgyz Republic.
«The draft National Development Program of the Country until 2030 pays special attention to the development of green energy as one of the vectors of development and adaptation to climate change. One of the targets of the program is the country’s entry into the top 30 countries in achieving the sustainable development goals,» he added.
Also, according to him, a new program for the development of a green economy until 2029 is being worked out and a green taxonomy is being introduced, which will become a guideline for assessing and financing environmentally sustainable projects.
Adylbek Kasymaliev confirmed Kyrgyzstan’s commitment to the goals of the Paris Agreement and the obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 44 percent by 2030, as well as striving for carbon neutrality by 2050.
«Successful implementation of these goals requires significant funding and investment, amounting to billions of dollars. Therefore, combining the resources of the state, international partners, financial institutions and the private sector for climate financing is becoming one of the important areas of activity of the Cabinet of Ministers,» he emphasized.
In this context, Adylbek Kasymaliev outlined the special role of the Climate Finance Center (CFC) under the Cabinet of Ministers and noted three strategic areas of its development: focus on project activities, development of mechanisms for involving the private sector and regional cooperation.
