Measles incidence decreases in Kyrgyzstan

A total of 13,320 cases of measles have been registered in Kyrgyzstan since the beginning of the year. The Republican Center for Immunoprophylaxis informed 24.kg news agency.

Measles incidence in the country has a downward trend, the center noted.

At least 49 cases of measles were registered from September 1 to September 17. For comparison, in July there were 828 cases, and in August — only 260.

Although the measles incidence is declining, the main circulation of the virus is observed in Bishkek and two districts of Chui region adjacent to the capital. The spread of the virus there is maintained by stationary foci.

One of the important measures in response to the measles outbreak was the campaign for additional and catch-up immunization.

All children from nine months to seven years old inclusive are subject to vaccination, with the exception of those, who received two doses of the measles vaccine during routine and catch-up vaccination.
