One of the authors of the state flag of Kyrgyzstan, Bekbosun Zhaichybekov, died on September 6.
He was born on November 27, 1948, in Korumdu village, Issyk-Kul region. In 1972, he graduated from the Almaty Art School, and in 1982 — from the Moscow State University of Printing Arts.
Bekbosun Zhaichybekov worked for various publishing houses — Mektep, Kyrgyzstan, Adabiyat, Sham and Kut Aalam, holding the positions of senior art editor and chief artist.
The artist became known as one of the leading illustrators of children’s books. He collaborated with publishing houses in Turkmenistan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, the USA and Switzerland, and participated in the artistic design of books for the Soros Foundation — Kyrgyzstan.
He became a prize winner, participating in national and international competitions and book exhibitions. For his contribution to the illustration of educational and children’s literature, Bekbosun Zhaichybekov was awarded the titles of «Excellent Education Worker of the Kyrgyz Republic», «Honored Cultural Figure of the Kyrgyz Republic», «People’s Artist of the Kyrgyz Republic», honorary citizen of Bishkek, and was awarded Dank medal.
He spoke out against changing the state flag of the country.
