An emergency situation due to mudflows is in effect in four regions of the republic. Senior Officer of the Civil Protection Department of the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kyrgyzstan Kubanych Temirbek uulu announced at a briefing.
According to him, the emergency situation is in effect in Osh, Jalal-Abad, Batken, and Talas regions.
«According to the government decree, there are criteria for assessing emergencies. After a mudflow, material and economic damage is assessed, and an emergency situation regime is declared in a particular region to eliminate the consequences of the disaster. When they are eliminated, the regime will be lifted,» Kubanych Temirbek uulu said.
Mudflows occurred in Nookat district of Osh region on June 28, leading to the death of people. Due to heavy rains, mudflows flooded dozens of courtyards and damaged bridges, roads and power lines. Ten people were killed.
On June 30, four people died during a mudflow in Kara-Kuldzha district of Osh region. They are all members of the same family.
