Terrorist attacks in Dagestan: More than 15 police officers killed

More than 15 police officers became victims of a terrorist attack in Dagestan, and several civilians also died, the head of the region, Sergei Melikov, reported on Telegram.

The active phase of operational combat activities in Makhachkala and Derbent has been completed. More than 15 police officers and several civilians were killed, and six militants were eliminated.

Three days of mourning have been declared in Dagestan — June 24, 25 and 26.

The United Russia party expelled the head of Sergokalinsky district, Magomed Omarov, from its ranks; he was the secretary of the regional branch of the party. RBK’s source in the law enforcement agencies of Dagestan reported that Omarov was detained and interrogated by FSB officers. Earlier, there were reports that two sons of the district head were among the participants in the attack.

One of the killed is Archpriest Nikolai Kotelnikov, who served in Derbent church. Another killed is a church security guard.

Four militants were eliminated in Makhachkala, and two more in Derbent.

In Makhachkala, as a result of a shootout with terrorists, 16 people were taken to the hospital, including 13 police officers and three civilians, the Department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs reported.
