Interior Ministry names reason for searches at journalists’ homes

A criminal case has been opened for calls for mass unrest on Ait Ait Dese and Temirov Live online platforms. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Kyrgyzstan reported.

According to it, on December 30, police officers, while monitoring the Internet, discovered information calling for mass unrest on one of the social media accounts of Ait Ait Dese and Temirov Live.

The investigative service registered the fact, and a forensic linguistic examination was appointed.

«According to the conclusion of the examination made on January 12, the materials posted on the social media accounts of Ait Ait Dese and Temirov Live contained signs of calls for protests and mass riots. The investigative service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs is carrying out appropriate investigative actions, a criminal case has been opened under Article 278, Part 3 (calls for active disobedience to the legal demands of government officials and for mass riots, as well as calls for violence against citizens) of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic. Currently, services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs are carrying out a number of operational investigative and search activities at several addresses,» the ministry said.

Searches have been carried out today in homes of at least ten current and former employees of Temirov Live team. Investigative journalist Bolot Temirov reported detention of a number of them. Earlier Bolot Temirov wrote: «ElTR accused me and Kanyshai of complicity in preparing a coup. This is a serious accusation.»
