Activists collect 5 trucks of garbage in nature reserves in Kyrgyzstan and Altai

As part of the annual international environmental campaign Clean Mountains, which takes place in the Altai Republic, East Kazakhstan region and Naryn region of Kyrgyzstan, activists collected 109 cubic meters of garbage. Katun Nature Reserve reported on its website.

«A record number of people took part in the Clean Mountains campaign in 2023 — more than 3,000. In total, activists organized 43 environmental landings, collected and transported 109 cubic meters of garbage to solid waste landfills (that’s about five KAMAZ trucks). The most active participants were employees of specially protected natural areas, members of children’s and youth eco-clubs, schoolchildren, students, representatives of various organizations and local residents,» the reserve representatives said.

The organizers of the campaign and volunteers removed garbage from mountainous natural areas. In Altai, on the initiative of Katun Nature Reserve, the banks of rivers and mountains near the villages of Ust-Koksinsky district were cleared of household waste. Large-scale environmental landings were carried out throughout Katon-Karagay National Park. Activists of the Western Altai Nature Reserve collected and brought the garbage down from Lineisky snowfield of Ivanovo Range.

Kyrgyz environmentalists held campaigns to clean up natural sites, routes, trails and recreation areas of Karatal-Zhapyryk Nature Reserve and Khan Tengri Nature Park.

Clean Mountains campaign is aimed at drawing attention to the problem of littering in mountainous areas, developing environmental awareness and respect for nature among the population.
