More than 77,000 Kyrgyzstanis purchase CMI certificates

At least 77,205 people in Kyrgyzstan purchased compulsory medical insurance (CMI) certificates. Health Minister Alymkadyr Beishenaliev announced at a meeting of the Parliament.

Deputy Suyunbek Omurzakov asked about benefits that Kyrgyzstanis who have received the compulsory medical insurance certificates have.

«Great benefits are provided for those who have purchased the compulsory health insurance certificate. Medicines are provided free of charge and operations are performed free of charge. Every citizen also has benefits in surgery, therapy, cardiology, and so on,» the Minister of Health said.

The deputy added that many citizens do not understand what a compulsory medical insurance certificate is and asked to post detailed information.

From April 2023, citizens of Kyrgyzstan are required to have the compulsory medical insurance certificate. It is mandatory for employees of certain organizations who pay taxes but do not make contributions to compulsory medical insurance, unregistered unemployed people, as well as stateless persons and foreigners temporarily residing in the country.

The cost of a compulsory medical insurance certificate for citizens of Kyrgyzstan is 1,722 soms this year, and it is revised every year. For foreigners it is 8,196 soms for six months, for 12 months — 16,391 soms. The certificate is issued to citizens for 12 months from the date of payment.
