The fire at Bishkek landfill has been completely brought under control. This reduced the smog problem to 10-15 percent. Deputy Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of Kyrgyzstan Medetbek Mametov told at a press conference.
According to him, the Bishkek sanitary landfill has been burning for decades. The fire has now been completely brought under control.
«The territory of the landfill is being reclaimed and 850 saplings have been planted, thereby creating a forest belt on 2.3 hectares. Equipment for recycling garment waste has been purchased and is operating. There are 1,039 sewing workshops in Bishkek, of which disposal contracts have been drawn up with 747. Special vehicles have been purchased for each district for the removal of textile waste,» the deputy minister said.
In addition, as Medetbek Mametov added, a World Bank project for $50 million is being implemented. It aims to improve air quality.
