Energy drinks planned to be banned in Kyrgyzstan, deputies approve bill

Deputies of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan approved the concept of the bill banning energy drinks.

The bill «On the ban of the import, production, marketing and sale of energy drinks on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic» was considered at a meeting of the Committee on Social Policy.

The initiator of the ban was a deputy Ulan Bakasov. He noted that the bill is aimed at protecting the health of citizens and reducing the consequences caused by the consumption of energy drinks.

According to him, an energy drink contains three cups of coffee and 14 tablespoons of sugar.

The Chair of the Social Policy Committee, Vinera Raimbachaeva, said that there were many cases of heart disease after drinking energy drinks in her medical practice. She noted that many children with diabetes are registered now.

Deputy Minister of Health Bubuzhan Arykbaeva also told about the dangers of energy drinks. According to her, the drinks contain caffeine, which poses a serious threat to the health of Kyrgyzstanis.

Following the discussion, deputies adopted the bill in the first reading.
