Bishkek needs more than 2,400 buses and trolleybuses to cover the demand. The data analysis of PeshCom initiative says.
It is noted that, according to City Hall estimates, 750,000 people use public transport in the capital every day. The approximate volume of passenger traffic is 1.5 million, given that each person who uses transport makes only two trips a day from home to work and back.
«Currently all types of transportation (municipal and private buses, trolleybuses and minibuses) cover only 41 percent of the traffic volume. Currently, transport is designed for comfortable movement of only four out of ten citizens,» the initiative notes.
The municipality promises that 1,500-1,600 buses and trolleybuses will operate in Bishkek in 2024. However, according to PeshCom, they will not cover the entire volume of passenger traffic.
«Together with the new buses, if all the City Hall plans are implemented, public transport will only be able to cover 58 percent of the daily traffic volume. This means that the remaining 42 percent will be ignored or given to minibuses,» the organization added.
