At least 11 people were killed, 18 more were injured as a result of an explosion and fire at Kostenko mine of ArcelorMittal Temirtau company in Karaganda region of Kazakhstan. Vlast media outlet reported.
According to official data, «at the time of the accident there were 252 people in the mine, 205 miners were brought to the surface.» The authorities did not specify how many miners remain in the mine.
There are 40 rescuers, 10 units of equipment and 3 psychologists working on the site, who provide assistance to the relatives of the killed and injured.
According to preliminary information, the cause of the accident was a methane explosion in the longwall (underground mining), the press service of ArcelorMittal Temirtau reported.
This is the second major accident at ArcelorMittal Temirtau mines in recent months. This summer, five miners died as a result of an accident at Kazakhstanskaya mine. The fire at the mine is still being extinguished.
