Major repairs of canal in Novopokrovka to increase productivity 2.5 times

Major repairs of an inter-farm canal P4 with a length of 1,700 meters has started in Novopokrovka village, Issyk-Ata district, Chui region. It is fed from the Western Big Chui Canal.

Irrigation of 780 hectares of land depends on the canal. Both small farms and large organizations, such as a seed farm, receive water from it.

Previously, the canal’s bed was unpaved and constantly silted up. Now it is being filled with concrete. This will allow to operate the canal for 40-50 years, minimize water losses.

During the repair, workers constantly face the problem of access to the canal. The owners of nearby private houses and commercial organizations have seized part of the water protection zone. Therefore, it is practically impossible to use machinery — part of the work is done manually.

Overhaul of the canal will increase its capacity from 200 to 500 liters of water per second. All works are planned to be completed by the beginning of December.
