China intends to finance the delivery of drinking water from Kempir-Abad to Fergana. Ozodlik reports.

According to the media outlet, citing the administration of Fergana region of Uzbekistan, the Chinese holding Sinomash intends to implement a project to pump clean drinking water from Kempir-Abad reservoir to Fergana in Uzbekistan. Preliminary agreements have already been reached with Sinomash. In addition, the company will also carry out the construction and major reconstruction of social institutions in the region.

Preliminary agreement on the projects is up to $300 million.

Administration of Fergana region reported that during the visit of the head of the region, Khairullo Bozorov, 29 investment agreements and trade contracts were signed for a total of $1.37 billion.

Earlier, the head of the State Committee for National Security of Kyrgyzstan, Kamchybek Tashiev, told deputies of the Parliament that in total more than 19,000 hectares of land remain the property of Kyrgyzstan, and the territory of the water of the Kempir-Abad reservoir remains the property of Uzbekistan — 4,485 hectares, but it will be managed jointly by the two countries.

Kempir-Abad reservoir (it is called Andijan in Uzbekistan) is located at the junction of Osh and Jalal-Abad regions of Kyrgyzstan and Andijan region of Uzbekistan. It was built in 1983 on the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic.
